Canadian Politics
Canadian government has three levels:
1. Federal
2. Provincial
3. Government
England's Queen Elizabeth II is the head of the country, and until 1982 Canada could not make any changes to its constitution without the approval of British government. It was the Constitution Act that came into effect in 1982 that enabled Canada to make any changes in its constitution without approval from British Government. The official languages in Canada are English and French, which is protected by The Official Language Act.
Political party that wins the federal election has the most elected members creates the Federal Government. Its leader becomes the Prime Minister of Canada. The party that finishes second in the election becomes the official opposition party. The role of the opposition party is to provide constructive criticism to the government.
There are four main political parties in Canada:
1. The Liberal
2. The Progressive Conservative
3. The New Democratic
4. The Canadian Alliance
